While we’d love to take credit for all of the great ideas “we” have, a lot of those ideas are generated by client requests. For example, we recently had a client request a Snapchat filter. Why is that such a great idea?
One of the most engaging and popular marketing tools that a manufacturing company can use is a plant tour. People love getting a behind-the-scenes look at how things are made and, more importantly, who’s making it. Giving tours provides credibility and makes it more personable for potential customers. So, what’s the best way to enhance a customer’s experience or visit?
One unique way to grab customers’ attention and make an impression is by using a custom geofilter on Snapchat. Even though Snapchat offers a ton of ways to reach customers and visitors, it’s very underutilized. In fact, Snapchat is rarely utilized at all.
What is Snapchat?
Basically, Snapchat is an image and video messaging mobile app. You take a picture (a “snap”, per se) and can add a variety of filters, stickers, or words over the picture. You can then choose to send this snap to a friend, friends, or add it to your story (which documents a day in your life, then disappears after 24 hours.) Your friends can then respond to (or chat with) you by sending text or a picture response.
Why Should Businesses Consider Using Snapchat?
Snapchat has the potential to reach a huge audience, and it makes it easier to connect with customers and potential customers.
- It has 300+ million monthly active users
- 60% of smartphone users are on Snapchat
- Millennials account for 7 out of 10 Snapchatters; 60% of Snapchatters are between the ages of 18 and 34
- It now has more users than Twitter
- It reaches 11% of Americans
- Its daily video views have increased 400% year-over-year and now has more video views than Facebook
- Its ads are viewed up to a million times per day
What’s a Geofilter?
Snapchat has taken photo “editing” to the next level; it gives users the ability to not only apply filters to photos, but it also allows users to use “filters” that include flower crowns or dog ears or silly faces. These graphic effects are applied over your video or image. They also apply different filters based on location, temperature, speed, time, and other factors. A custom geofilter allows a business or user to create an effect based on their preferences or services. That filter can then appear to any Snapchat user within a geotargeted area.
How Can A Geofilter Be Beneficial To Companies?
In the case of manufacturing companies, creating a geofilter can be beneficial by spreading awareness. If you create a geofilter, encourage your visitors to snap on site! Encourage endless selfies, try different filters, and engage your visitors. Your visitors can take these snaps, then save them with the filter and post them to additional social media sites later, which expands your awareness even further.
Braun Industries recently requested that we help them create custom filters for their pre-construction meetings, final inspections, plant tours, and event tradeshows. Now, their brand has the opportunity to engage with Snapchatters, wherever they may be.
Snapchat is a great way to engage with customers and those who visit your business. Since not many places have hopped on the Snapchat train, it makes you stand out to those who actively use the app. Not only can you engage with users who follow you on Snapchat by giving them tours and inside scoop on products, you can also create filters that these users can put over their photos and share with their friends and colleagues.
