Having reviews online about your products and/or services is critical. You know this. You are well aware that most people and businesses do a lot of research online before making a final decision on who they will buy a product or service from. In fact, it probably isn’t going to come as a shock to know that, according to statistics gathered by Zendesk, 88% of people are influenced by online customer service reviews when making buying decisions. It’s all about building up your brand to be viewed as a trustworthy and responsible company to do business with. And with Google being the search engine that over 67% of people use and trust, you know it’s imperative to have positive Google reviews posted publicly for people to see.

But how do you get more Google reviews for your business?

Most people have a bunch of other priorities in their lives that supersede your request for a testimonial. Let’s face it, even if they did have a great experience with you or your product, that doesn’t mean they are ready and willing to devote a ton of time to make sure everyone in the world knows it.

Also, if people don’t regularly give Google reviews, the process can seem cumbersome. They can’t find your Google Business page online to post their review or they don’t have a Google account already setup. After trying unsuccessfully for a few minutes to provide complete their review, they give up and move on to more important things.

So, you have to make it easy. Make it so easy that it should take them less than 5 minutes to complete without much effort on their part. But how do you do that?

Give them easy and quick instructions to follow.

    What should that include?

    1. Have them login to Google. They need to login with their Google account in order to leave a review, so instruct them to do so. If they don’t have an account, make it easy for them to sign up for one by giving them a link like this. If they don’t want a Gmail account and want to use their current non-Gmail email account to create a Google account, they can go here
    2. Give them an easy direct link to leaving a review for your business. Take all the guesswork out of where they have to go and what they need to click on to give a review.
      1. To get the best link to your Google Review link for both mobile and desktop users, follow these steps:
        1. Search for your Google Business page at Google.com by typing in your Business name + city and state of your location. (Do this on a desktop.) An example of the search format using our company would be: the bonanno group canfield ohio
        2. In your search results to the right you will see your Google page. Click on the “Write a Review” button.

        3. Once you do this, copy the link in the address bar and paste it into a new Word doc or Notepad doc. An example of the way the URL should look using our company would be: https://www.google.com/webhp?sourceid=chrome-instant&rlz=1C1SAVS_enUS543US544&ion=1&espv=2&ie=UTF-8#q=the%20bonanno%20group%20canfield%20ohio&lrd=0x8833fd10fa901fe7:0x88057f593cb742a1,2

        4. Delete everything in the URL after the question mark (?), all the way up to the and symbol (&) that comes right before ie. An example of the final URL would be: https://www.google.com/webhp?&ie=UTF-8#q=the%20bonanno%20group%20canfield%20ohio&lrd=0x8833fd10fa901fe7:0x88057f593cb742a1,2
        5. Go to https://goo.gl/
        6. Paste in your modified URL and click “Shorten URL.”

Using Google link shortener to help you get Google reviews for your business.

        7. Copy this new, shortened URL and add it as a hyperlink to the document instructions you are sending to your customers.
        8. NOTE: For this process to work in which you give your customers a direct link to your Google review process, you must have at least ONE Google review on your account. If you do not have any Google reviews on your account yet, the links will not work correctly.
    1. Make sure you are serving your customers well and answering their needs and complaints satisfactorily. Before you blast customers with a request to give you a testimonial, ensure that you have no reason to believe they might have issues with your services or products. It would be unfortunate if you send out this call for reviews only to get inundated with upset customer reviews.
